Where it came from
Aquagon, released in 2013 as part of the LEGO Hero Factory 'Brain Attack' series, was designed to expand the narrative of a modular construction universe. This set features the titular creature, a water-based antagonist, constructed with the ball-and-socket building system that defined the late-stage evolution of the Hero Factory line. Its design prioritizes a lean, biomechanical aesthetic intended to represent a sleek aquatic predator, utilizing translucent blue elements to evoke a sense of fluid movement.
The Hero Factory theme served as the successor to the Bionicle franchise, aiming to offer a more accessible, action-oriented building experience for younger audiences. Aquagon, being one of the smaller sets in the wave, was engineered to facilitate rapid assembly and provide dynamic playability through its articulated joints. Upon its release, it was received as a functional addition to the series, appealing primarily to collectors who valued the consistent build style and the integration of the 'brain' attachment gimmick central to the 2013 story arc.
