Where it came from
Released in 2018 as part of the Lego City Arctic Expedition subtheme, the Arctic Supply Plane (set 60196-1) was designed to expand the play possibilities of the wider Arctic line. The set features a heavy-lift cargo plane with opening bay doors, a ski-equipped landing gear, and a motorized ice cutter vehicle, reflecting Lego's tradition of creating immersive, adventurous play scenarios that allow children to simulate expedition-style scientific exploration in challenging environments.
The design emphasizes functional play, with the aircraft serving as the central transport hub for the modular arctic terrain and equipment included in the set. It was received as a substantial mid-sized addition to the 2018 range, praised by the community for its rugged aesthetic and the inclusion of specialized components like the ice cutter and a translucent ice block containing a prehistoric mammoth figure, which served as a narrative hook for young builders.
