Where it came from
Astro Bot, set 40899-1, was released as a promotional LEGO model celebrating the iconic mascot of Team Asobi’s PlayStation titles. The figure captures the character's signature minimalist, friendly aesthetic, characterized by a clean white and blue color palette and an expressive, circular visor. It was designed to function as a compact desk display, mirroring the character's role as a guide through the history of PlayStation hardware.
The model emerged during a period of increased collaboration between LEGO and major interactive entertainment franchises. Designers aimed to translate the fluid, playful movement of the digital Astro Bot into the static, geometric constraints of the brick medium. While intended as a tribute for fans of the game series, it received praise for its effective use of simple parts to recreate the character's recognizable silhouette.
