Where it came from
Released in 2012 as part of the inaugural wave of the LEGO Lord of the Rings theme, the Attack on Weathertop set was designed to capture a pivotal moment from the fellowship’s journey. The set depicts the ruins of Amon Sûl, where Frodo Baggins is confronted by the Nazgûl, translating the dramatic atmosphere of the films into a play-focused structure that includes a trapdoor feature and removable sections.
The design team emphasized the bleak, rocky aesthetic of the ancient watchtower while incorporating essential minifigures: Frodo, Merry, Aragorn, and three Ringwraiths. Upon its debut, the set was praised by the fan community for its thoughtful selection of characters and the inclusion of exclusive molded accessories, such as the Witch-king's crown, marking a highly regarded entry in the short-lived but beloved theme.
