Where it came from
Bard the Bowman (COMCON038-1) was released as a promotional minifigure during the 2014 San Diego Comic-Con. Produced by The LEGO Group, this exclusive item was designed to coincide with the marketing campaign for 'The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies'. It features a unique printing on the torso and head to differentiate it from the widely available retail versions found in the official building sets of that era.
The figure was distributed in a limited capacity at the event, housed in blister-style packaging that has since become a hallmark of convention-exclusive collectibles. While the character was designed by LEGO’s internal creative team to reflect the cinematic appearance of Bard as portrayed by Luke Evans, the limited distribution model was primarily intended to generate buzz and incentivize attendee engagement during the convention.
