Beautiful LEGO 2

Beautiful LEGO 2: Dark, published by No Starch Press, serves as the second installment in a celebrated series curated by Mike Doyle. Released in the mid-2010s, the book was conceived to shift the perception of LEGO from a children's building toy to a medium for high-level artistic expression. It focuses specifically on darker, more somber, and complex themes, moving away from the bright primary colors typically associated with the brand to showcase the potential for moody, gothic, and conceptual artistry.

The book features the work of various international artists who utilize the plastic medium to explore abstract concepts, intricate textures, and atmospheric storytelling. Mike Doyle sought to curate a portfolio that challenged traditional assembly techniques, favoring pieces that emphasize form and shadow over utilitarian function. Upon release, it was well-received by the adult fan of LEGO community for elevating the medium to the realm of gallery-style art and providing inspiration for builders interested in dark aesthetics.
