Where it came from
The 2134-1 Bison, produced as part of the LEGO Legoland 'Wild Animals' subtheme in 1976, reflects a period when the company was expanding its catalog beyond basic bricks to include specialized animal figures. This piece was designed to bring a sense of natural history to the modular cityscape, utilizing a molded plastic form that captured the distinct silhouette of the North American bison, which was a popular subject for toys during the mid-1970s.
The design of the bison focused on simplicity and durability, consistent with the aesthetic of late-70s LEGO elements. While the figure was a relatively humble addition to the collection, it was well-received by builders of the era for its ability to populate the landscapes and safari-themed dioramas that were gaining popularity among young hobbyists at the time.
