Where it came from
Released in 2025 as part of the LEGO Icons line, the Blacktron Renegade serves as a modern reimagining of the iconic 6954 Blacktron Renegade from 1987. This updated set was designed to capture the nostalgia of the original Space theme while utilizing contemporary building techniques to enhance the structural complexity and detailing of the classic spacecraft. It honors the aesthetic of the original Blacktron faction, characterized by its stark black, yellow, and translucent neon-yellow color scheme.
The design process focused on balancing authenticity with modern display standards, aiming to appeal to adult fans who grew up with the Space theme in the late 1980s. The set maintains the modular design principles of the original, allowing the vessel to be reconfigured into multiple distinct units. Upon its announcement, the set was received as a significant tribute to one of the most recognizable villain factions in LEGO history, signaling a broader trend of the Icons series revisiting legacy sets with expanded part counts and increased architectural refinement.
