Where it came from
Blocks magazine issue 20 was released in 2016 as a specialized independent publication dedicated to the Lego hobbyist community. Established to provide in-depth analysis and behind-the-scenes content that surpassed standard toy catalogues, this issue reflects the magazine's commitment to bridging the gap between casual building and the adult fan of Lego (AFOL) demographic. It serves as a historical document of the building trends and community interests prevalent during that period of the brand's mid-2010s expansion.
The design of this issue follows the magazine's signature editorial style, which prioritizes high-quality photography and detailed feature writing over traditional marketing copy. The editorial direction was spearheaded by the publication's early team, who aimed to create a journalistic resource for enthusiasts. Upon release, it was well-received by hobbyist circles for its technical reviews and interviews, establishing a niche for independent fan media that remains influential in the current landscape of collector publications.
