Where it came from
Blocks magazine issue 72 was published in early 2020 as an independent monthly publication dedicated to the hobby of building with plastic bricks. The magazine was established to provide AFOLs (Adult Fans of LEGO) with deeper coverage than typical marketing materials, focusing on detailed set reviews, interviews with designers, and community-driven build challenges. This specific issue reflects the editorial direction of the publication during a period of significant growth for the fan community, offering a blend of professional photography and enthusiast-focused critique.
The design of issue 72 aligns with the publication's signature clean, infographic-heavy aesthetic, which aims to balance technical building insights with accessible narratives for collectors of all ages. Created by an editorial team of long-time hobbyists and industry journalists, the magazine was intended to serve as a curated companion to the building experience. It was well-received by the enthusiast community for its commitment to high-quality print production and its role as an independent voice in a market otherwise dominated by official corporate media.
