Where it came from
The Blue Train Doors with Panes (set 3736-1) were released by the LEGO Group in 1980 as a specialized accessory pack within the broader Trains product line. During this period, the company was expanding its modular building system to offer more architectural detail, allowing builders to incorporate functional, opening doors into the stations and carriages they constructed for their 4.5V and 12V train layouts.
The design reflects the aesthetic of late 1970s and early 1980s LEGO elements, characterized by primary colors and simple, robust mechanical hinges. This set provided a specific aesthetic touch for train station structures, with the windowed panes designed to align with the visual language of the modular town and transport sets of that era. It remains a notable example of the component-based expansion packs that were common in the company's early years.
