Where it came from
Released in 2017 as part of the LEGO Elves theme, this set, titled Breakout from the Goblin King's Fortress, served as the primary antagonist's headquarters for the year's narrative arc. The theme was developed by LEGO designers to offer a fantasy-driven building experience centered on high-magic storytelling and detailed aesthetic elements, distinguishing itself from other contemporary lines through its use of a distinct, saturated color palette and specialized molded creature figures.
The set was designed to capture the dark, fortified essence of the Goblin King's realm, contrasting with the vibrant Elves' forest sets. It features complex building techniques, including a sliding crystal prison and a rotating portal, reflecting the design team's focus on interactive play mechanics. Upon its release, it was well-regarded by collectors for its unique minifigure components and the inclusion of the Goblin King character, effectively concluding the Elves' cinematic-style story sequences produced during that period.
