Where it came from
The Brickbuster Video membership card was released as a promotional item at San Diego Comic-Con 2023. It serves as a nostalgic homage to the iconic brick-and-mortar video rental culture of the 1990s, specifically parodying the branding of major national chains that dominated the home entertainment landscape before the rise of digital streaming.
The item was designed with a deliberate retro aesthetic, utilizing a distinct color palette and typography reminiscent of mid-90s graphic design. It was produced as part of a broader activation at the convention intended to evoke a sense of play and collective memory for adult fans of the toy hobby, who frequently engage with themes of retro-tech and analog cultural artifacts.
