Where it came from
Brickdiction: A Seven Step Recovery Guide for People Addicted to LEGO was published in 2012 as a lighthearted, tongue-in-cheek manual for adult fans of LEGO. It emerged during a period when the Adult Fan of LEGO (AFOL) community was rapidly expanding and increasingly reflecting on the intensity of their hobby. The book adopts the structure of traditional recovery programs to humorously address the compulsive nature of collecting and the financial impact of sustaining an expansive brick collection.
The guide was written with a satirical tone, playing on the common trope that hobbyist devotion can border on obsession. Rather than acting as a clinical resource, it serves as a piece of meta-commentary on the collector experience. It was received primarily by the fan community as a novelty item, functioning more as a humorous accessory for a display shelf than as a serious piece of self-help literature.
