Where it came from
BrickJournal, a long-running magazine dedicated to the adult fan of LEGO (AFOL) community, published issue 62 in 2020. Edited by Joe Meno, the publication serves as a chronicle of building techniques, community news, and creative spotlights within the LEGO hobbyist sphere. It emerged from the growing need for a dedicated print media outlet for a community that had transitioned from a childhood toy demographic into a complex, design-focused adult hobby.
The issue focuses on the theme of space, exploring how builders recreate astronomical bodies and science-fiction vessels using plastic bricks. The design philosophy of the magazine relies heavily on visual galleries and instructional interviews, aiming to document the sophisticated engineering challenges faced by high-level builders. It was received by the community as a bridge between official company releases and the independent, often avant-garde, work produced by individual hobbyists.
