Where it came from
The Cannon Ball Clowns set, numbered 2650-2, was released as part of the Lego Duplo product line in the late 1990s. Designed for the younger demographic, the set focused on simple, robust construction and imaginative play, reflecting the era's emphasis on vibrant, primary-colored plastic blocks that were safe for toddlers. It aimed to introduce children to basic assembly mechanics through the whimsical theme of a circus, a recurring and popular motif in early childhood toy design.
The set featured distinct, oversized figures and circus-themed accessories intended to encourage roleplay and storytelling. Like many Duplo sets of this period, the design was overseen by Lego's internal creative teams in Billund, Denmark, who prioritized durability and interlocking compatibility with the larger Lego system. While it served as a standard entry in the Duplo catalog rather than a niche collector's piece, it remains well-regarded by enthusiasts for its nostalgic value and the specific charm of the circus-themed character pieces included in the box.
