Where it came from
Released in 2012 as part of the LEGO Marvel Super Heroes theme, set 4597-1 features a buildable Captain America figure. This set was introduced during the initial wave of Marvel tie-ins coinciding with the expanding cinematic universe, utilizing the 'Constraction' build system that combined traditional bricks with ball-and-socket limb joints previously popularized by the Bionicle and Hero Factory lines.
The design was spearheaded by the LEGO creative team to offer a poseable, action-oriented version of the character, departing from the standard minifigure scale. While the stylization of these buildable figures received a mixed reception from adult collectors who preferred traditional sets, the series was marketed primarily to younger builders who valued the playability and articulation afforded by the large-scale, brick-built frame.
