Where it came from
The 4000000-1 Cars set was released as a promotional item by the LEGO Group in 2011 to coincide with the global marketing campaign for the Disney-Pixar film Cars 2. Produced during a period where LEGO was aggressively expanding its brand licensing partnerships, the set was designed to be a simple, accessible entry point for younger fans of the franchise, focusing on core characters from the film.
The set was primarily distributed through specific retail promotions and promotional events rather than traditional mass-market shelf sales. Its design adheres to the standard aesthetic of licensed promotional polybags of the era, prioritizing immediate recognition of the film's lead vehicles. While it did not garner critical acclaim in the way larger, more complex building sets might, it serves as a distinct piece of contemporary corporate branding history within the LEGO-Disney licensing timeline.
