Where it came from
The Castle Figures set, released under the number 6002 in 1984, served as a supplementary battle pack for the inaugural LEGO Castle theme, often retrospectively referred to as Yellow Castle. Designed to expand the ranks of the early factions, the set provided builders with a cost-effective way to populate their fortifications with additional knights and foot soldiers, reflecting a time when sets were intentionally modular and designed to be combined rather than displayed in isolation.
The figures included in this set adhered to the minimalist aesthetic of the early 1980s, featuring classic smiley-face prints and generic heraldry that allowed for broad imaginative play. While the designer credits for individual minor sets from this era are rarely attributed to specific persons, the design philosophy prioritized structural simplicity and playability, cementing the set's legacy as a foundational element for fans of the early medieval LEGO aesthetic who sought to build large-scale armies without the need for multiple large castle structures.
