Catherine Cat's House and Mortimer Mouse

The Catherine Cat's House and Mortimer Mouse set, numbered 341-2, was produced as part of the Sylvanian Families line by the Japanese toy company Epoch. First introduced in the 1980s, the Sylvanian Families collection gained international recognition for its detailed, anthropomorphic animal figures and intricate miniature environments. This specific set was designed to expand the domestic world of the Sylvanian village, reflecting the brand’s focus on high-quality plastic molding and felt-flocked textures that provided a tactile, nostalgic appeal to children and adult collectors alike.

The aesthetic of the set follows the hallmark Victorian-inspired architectural style synonymous with the early Sylvanian releases. Designed to foster imaginative play, the house includes scaled furniture and accessories meant to encourage detailed world-building. Upon its release, the line was celebrated for its charm and design consistency, quickly establishing itself as a staple of 1980s and 90s toy culture. The inclusion of character-specific sets like this one helped define the lore and character dynamics of the fictional Sylvanian village, which remains a focus of ongoing collector interest.
