Where it came from
The 1116-1 Chain Links set was introduced in 1974 as part of a series of supplementary basic building components. These sets were designed to expand the creative utility of existing building systems by providing specialized, modular plastic connectors that allowed builders to create articulated, moving, or suspended structures, marking a shift toward more complex mechanical play.
The design focused on simplicity and durability, utilizing a high-density plastic in a signature primary color palette. Developed during a period when the brand was refining its versatile educational offerings, these links were intended to teach fundamental engineering concepts through hands-on assembly. They were well-received as a staple accessory, appreciated by educators and hobbyists alike for their compatibility with standard brick systems.
