Where it came from
The Chinese Dragon set, numbered 40395-1, was released by the LEGO Group in 2020 as a promotional item to celebrate the Lunar New Year. Designed to capture the aesthetic of traditional Chinese dragon imagery, the build focuses on articulation and vibrant coloration to evoke the cultural significance of the creature in the Zodiac cycle. It was distributed primarily through official LEGO brand stores during specific promotional windows, reflecting the company’s increasing efforts to engage with global cultural celebrations.
The design utilizes a blend of standard and specialized pieces to achieve the flowing, serpentine movement characteristic of the dragon. By prioritizing a modular construction, the set allows for dynamic posing, which made it a popular choice for both play and display. Upon its release, it was well-received by the collector community for its efficient use of parts to convey fluid motion, standing out as a distinct entry within the wider range of seasonal holiday promotional sets.
