Classic Race

Released in 2015 as part of the LEGO Duplo product line, the Classic Race set 10600-1 was designed to provide a foundational building experience for toddlers and young children. The set aligns with the long-standing Duplo design philosophy of using larger, safer, and more durable bricks that are compatible with the classic system while being specifically sized for smaller hands. Its development focused on encouraging early motor skills through simple construction, specifically the assembly of two colorful racing cars.

The set was produced during a period when the Duplo range increasingly emphasized open-ended play narratives, moving away from purely educational motifs toward recognizable, action-oriented themes like racing. The design choice to include distinct red and blue vehicles allowed for simple comparative play, mirroring the developmental stage of early childhood where children begin to categorize by color and function. It remains a representative example of the brand’s mid-2010s approach to blending playability with robust, chunky aesthetics.
