Where it came from
Clive Crocodile on his Skateboard was released in 2002 as part of the LEGO 'Jack Stone' sub-theme, a short-lived product line aimed at younger builders looking for a bridge between Duplo and the standard System bricks. The set features a molded, non-articulated figure of Clive Crocodile riding a simple, four-wheeled skateboard assembly. It represents a period in the early 2000s when the company experimented with larger, pre-assembled character pieces to facilitate quicker play for children, prioritizing ease of assembly over the traditional brick-by-brick construction method.
The character design reflects the broader aesthetic of the Jack Stone line, which utilized a distinct, animation-inspired style that differed significantly from the classic LEGO minifigure. While the line received a polarized reception from adult hobbyists who valued the complexity of traditional sets, it succeeded in its goal of providing an accessible entry point for younger demographics. Clive Crocodile remains a niche curiosity within the LEGO catalog, recognized today primarily for its departure from standard design conventions and its brief presence in the company's extensive history.
