Where it came from
Released in 2008, the Clone Pilot Magnet set (853039-1) was part of a series of collectible magnet packs produced by the LEGO Group under the Star Wars license. These sets were designed to serve as both decorative items and functional display pieces, featuring minifigures permanently glued to 4x4 plates that could be used on metallic surfaces. The Clone Pilot figure included in this set represents the iconic Phase 2 helmet design seen throughout the Clone Wars era, capturing the specific aesthetic of the Republic's naval and starfighter personnel.
The design of this specific minifigure was consistent with the broader standard of LEGO Star Wars character development during the late 2000s, focusing on screen-accurate helmet printing and torso detailing. While these magnet sets were primarily marketed toward younger builders and collectors looking for efficient ways to display favorite characters, they were often scrutinized by adult fans of the series due to the adhesive used to attach the figures to the backing plates, which made them difficult to remove for traditional play without damaging the plastic.
