Coast Guard Station (Canadian version)

Released in 1978, the LEGO Coast Guard Station, set 575-2, was produced as part of a localized Canadian lineup. During this era, LEGO maintained specific distribution agreements in North America, often resulting in unique set numberings and packaging variants compared to their European counterparts. The set reflects the brand’s transition toward more specialized vocational themes, aiming to provide children with a tangible representation of maritime rescue services through the modular building style characteristic of late 1970s LEGO design.

The set was designed during a period when the brand’s aesthetic relied on a limited palette of primary colors—predominantly red, white, and blue—and simple, geometric silhouettes. Lacking the intricate specialized pieces of modern sets, the 575-2 relied on foundational bricks and baseplates to create a cohesive scene. It was received as a functional addition to the growing city landscape, praised by contemporary hobbyists for its clear theme and the inclusion of a specialized coast guard vessel, which helped establish the standard for later water-based rescue sets.
