Where it came from
The Coastal Patrol set, numbered 6483, was released in 1999 as part of the LEGO Town theme. It was designed during a period when the company was expanding its focus on specialized emergency services, specifically maritime and coastal rescue operations. The set was created to provide a dedicated vessel for nautical-themed play, reflecting the brand's long-standing tradition of integrating watercraft into their urban layout designs.
The design of the Coastal Patrol features a streamlined hull and a cockpit layout that emphasizes functional utility, a signature approach for late 1990s Town sets. It was illustrated with a straightforward aesthetic, focusing on accessibility and playability rather than complex structural techniques. Upon its release, it was well-received by hobbyists for its inclusion of a unique maritime officer figure and its ability to integrate seamlessly with the larger harbor and beach modules available at the time.
