Where it came from
The Colourful Lantern, set number 40873-1, was released by the LEGO Group as part of their seasonal promotional offerings to celebrate the Lunar New Year. Introduced to capture the vibrant aesthetics of traditional lantern festivals, the set serves as a symbolic piece designed to bring festive warmth and cultural decoration to the builder's home during the holiday season.
The design of the set focuses on a stylized, buildable lantern incorporating a rich color palette and geometric elements characteristic of LEGO's decorative seasonal kits. It was created as an accessible, small-scale build intended for display, reflecting the company's broader effort to create culturally resonant items that appeal to a wide global audience looking for simple, meaningful holiday-themed constructions.
