The Com-Link Cruiser, released under the set number 6453-1, emerged in 1999 as part of the short-lived LEGO Throwbot series, which was later rebranded as Slizer in international markets. This collection represented a creative experiment for the company, blending traditional construction elements with technic-based gear functions and character-driven narratives. The set was designed to embody a futuristic, modular aesthetic, focusing on high-action playability through a launcher mechanism that allowed the included figure to fire a physical projectile.

The design of the Com-Link Cruiser and its counterparts relied on vibrant, stylized plastic components that moved away from the standard brick-built vehicles of the era. By incorporating specific elemental themes—in this case, the blue-themed air or speed-oriented pilot—the line aimed to capture the interest of children through collectibility and buildable action figures.
