Where it came from
The Connoisseur was released in 2017 as part of the LEGO Minifigures Series 17, a blind-bagged collection designed to offer unique, standalone characters. This specific minifigure was created to represent a refined art enthusiast, characterized by his sophisticated tuxedo, monocle, and a printed accessory depicting a painted landscape. The design focuses on a droll, slightly pretentious aesthetic, intended to provide collectors with a character that contrasts sharply with the more action-oriented figures typically found in themed sets.
The figure was well-received by the collector community for its detailed printing and the novelty of its accessories, which included a hairpiece with a distinctively styled mustache. Like other figures in the series, the Connoisseur was manufactured to expand the role-playing potential of the LEGO city environment, specifically catering to adult collectors who appreciate niche character archetypes. Its design remains a notable example of the series' commitment to personality-driven characters that do not rely on existing intellectual property franchises.
