Where it came from
The 6628 Construction Workers set was released in 1982 as part of a series of small, budget-friendly supplemental packs designed to expand existing town and cityscape layouts. During this era, these sets were marketed as 'Legoland' products, intended to populate the growing urban environments that children were building with larger sets. The packaging and contents were modest, focusing on providing functional figures and tools rather than elaborate structures.
The design of the figures reflects the minimalist aesthetic of early LEGO human characters, featuring the iconic static face and simple torsos that were standard for the period. These sets were conceptualized to offer high playability and utility, allowing collectors to add realistic labor to their construction sites. They were well-received as essential utility packs, serving as a staple component for enthusiasts looking to bring narrative life to their dioramas through the addition of specialized workers.
