Where it came from
Released in 2024 as part of the Lego Friends theme, the Costume Party set (42661-1) was designed to expand the narrative play associated with the rebooted Heartlake City cast. The set reflects the contemporary design language of the theme, focusing on detailed, character-driven social scenarios that encourage imaginative storytelling through modular play and interchangeable accessories.
The set was developed by the Lego design team to capitalize on the popularity of role-play themes, specifically highlighting the diverse aesthetics of the Friends characters. It was well-received by fans of the series for its vibrant color palette and the inclusion of specific pieces that allow for versatile customization, continuing the brand's long-standing tradition of combining accessible building techniques with complex, thematic play experiences.
