Where it came from
Released in 1999, the Cyber Stinger was a flagship model in the initial wave of the Lego Technic 'Slizer' theme, known internationally as 'Throwbots'. This theme was a significant departure for the Technic line, moving away from traditional mechanical engineering toward character-based construction. It was designed to appeal to younger builders by blending traditional bricks with specialized Technic elements, featuring a distinct robotic aesthetic and a throwing function that served as a core play feature.
The Cyber Stinger was illustrated and designed by the Lego design team to embody a sleek, insectoid persona, standing out from its counterparts with its lime green and black color palette and uniquely articulated limbs. It was well-received as an accessible entry point into the Technic system, bridging the gap between standard brick building and the more complex Technic mechanisms that would eventually lead to the development of Bionicle.
