Darth Maul

The Darth Maul figure, identified as part of the 912509-1 set, emerged during the late 1990s as part of the broader merchandising campaign surrounding the release of Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace. This set reflects the intense anticipation that defined the franchise's return to theaters, specifically focusing on the character design of the Sith apprentice, whose aesthetic was crafted by Lucasfilm's art department to emphasize a menacing, biomechanical appearance through intricate facial tattoos and a double-bladed lightsaber.

The design was intended to distinguish the character as a formidable threat in the cinematic landscape of 1999, leaning heavily into a striking color palette of red and black. Within the context of the toy line, these figures were aimed at both the expansive community of Star Wars completists and younger audiences drawn to the film's new antagonist. The reception of these items at the time was characterized by the immense retail frenzy that accompanied the film's launch, solidifying their place as standard artifacts of the era's pop culture saturation.
