Where it came from
The 850353-1 Darth Vader magnet set was released in 2008 as part of a series of LEGO minifigure magnets. This specific release featured the iconic Sith Lord alongside two other Star Wars characters, mounted on a molded display plate. The set was designed to cater to both children and collectors, serving as a functional piece of stationery that allowed fans to display their favorite minifigures on metallic surfaces.
The design of the minifigure aligns with the classic LEGO Star Wars aesthetic of the late 2000s, featuring the detailed printed torso and helmet mold that had become standard for the character by that time. While the magnets were originally intended to be removable, later iterations in this line famously featured the figures permanently glued to the base plates, a move that prompted significant discussion within the adult collector community regarding display flexibility and the integrity of the minifigures themselves.
