Where it came from
Released in 2009, this magnet set was produced by the LEGO Group under a license from Lucasfilm as part of the broader Star Wars product line. It was designed to function both as a functional household accessory and a collectible display piece, featuring a minifigure permanently affixed to a decorated plastic base. The design language reflects the standard aesthetic of the Star Wars minifigure series, prioritizing recognizable character details while maintaining the blocky, simplified charm associated with the brand.
The item was marketed as a small-scale peripheral for fans of the Star Wars franchise, appealing to those who enjoyed the crossover between Lucasfilm's expansive universe and LEGO's building system. Upon release, these magnets were widely available at retail outlets and through direct-to-consumer channels. While the series was eventually transitioned to a format featuring non-removable minifigures glued to magnets, the early versions like this set are often sought after for their classic design and the portability of the iconic Sith Lord figure.
