Where it came from
The LEGO Star Wars Death Star (set 75159) was released in 2016 as a direct successor to the 2008 Ultimate Collector Series version. It was developed to provide fans with an updated, large-scale playset that captured the iconic space station's various interior environments, including the detention block, the Emperor's throne room, and the TIE fighter hangar. The design team aimed to balance the structural complexity of a spherical build with the playability required for its extensive minifigure roster.
Upon its release, the set was noted for its high piece count and its adherence to the aesthetic established by its predecessor. Critics and fans recognized the model as an ambitious display piece, though it also faced some discussion regarding its similarities to the earlier 10188 set. Designed to commemorate the enduring legacy of the Star Wars franchise, it remains a notable example of LEGO's commitment to recreating significant cinematic structures for adult collectors.
