Where it came from
The Detective minifigure was released in 2010 as part of the LEGO Minifigures Series 2, a blind-bagged collection that revolutionized the way fans interacted with the brand by introducing individual character-driven figures. This series was designed to showcase a wider array of professions and archetypes, moving beyond standard licensed themes to provide a humorous, personality-rich cast of characters.
The design of the Detective draws heavily from the classic film noir aesthetic, featuring a dark trench coat and a brimmed fedora that evoke the quintessential hard-boiled investigator. Equipped with a magnifying glass accessory, the figure was intended to represent a whimsical, archetypal gumshoe, and it was warmly received by collectors for its clever use of dual-molded pieces and its nostalgic nod to mid-century detective fiction.
