Where it came from
The DJ minifigure, set number 40298-1, was released by The LEGO Group in 2018 as a promotional polybag. It depicts the mysterious codebreaker character from the 2017 film Star Wars: The Last Jedi. The character, known simply as DJ, was portrayed by actor Benicio del Toro and was designed to introduce a morally ambiguous perspective on the galactic conflict, challenging the binary nature of the Resistance and the First Order.
The minifigure design accurately captures the character’s drab, layered attire and unkempt appearance, reflecting the costume design intended to convey his nomadic lifestyle on Canto Bight. As a promotional item, it was distributed primarily through LEGO Brand Stores and online shops during a specific campaign. While the character's role in the film was divisive among fans, the minifigure is noted among collectors for its specific printing and the inclusion of a signature accessory, serving as a distinct representation of the Sequel Trilogy era.
