Doctor Strange's Sanctum Sanctorum

The LEGO Marvel Super Heroes set 76060-1, Sanctum Sanctorum, was released in 2016 to coincide with the theatrical debut of the Marvel Studios film Doctor Strange. As a mid-sized set, it was designed to capture the mystical essence of the character’s New York headquarters, featuring a focus on the climactic battle against the villain Kaecilius. The design team prioritized incorporating magical elements, such as rotating levers to trigger portals and shifting walls, which allowed builders to recreate the surreal geometry associated with the character’s cinematic depiction.

The set includes three minifigures—Doctor Strange, Karl Mordo, and The Ancient One—which were noted by the enthusiast community for their high level of print detail, particularly on the capes and robes. It was received as a faithful, entry-level representation of the Sanctum, serving as a dedicated companion to the broader Marvel Cinematic Universe collection. The aesthetic intent was to balance the grounded architectural look of the townhouse with the chaotic, supernatural energy of the film’s visual effects.
