Where it came from
Released in 2016 as part of the LEGO Technic line, the Drag Racer (set 42050-1) was designed to capture the visceral engineering of NHRA-style top fuel dragsters. The model reflects the technical complexity typical of the Technic series, prioritizing functional realism over purely aesthetic display features.
The design team emphasized authentic mechanical movement, incorporating a working V8 engine with moving pistons and a rear-wheel steering system. Upon its release, it was well-received by builders for its robust frame and the inclusion of a distinct 2-in-1 build capability, allowing it to be reconstructed into a supercharged dragster.
