Where it came from
Released in 2008 as part of the LEGO promotional offerings, the Ducks set (852995-1) serves as a nostalgic nod to the company's historical roots. LEGO began as a manufacturer of wooden toys in the 1930s, and the iconic wooden duck, originally designed by founder Ole Kirk Christiansen in 1935, remains one of the most recognizable symbols of the brand's heritage. This set was designed to recreate that classic pull-toy aesthetic using modern plastic bricks, allowing collectors to assemble a tribute to the company's formative years.
The design of the set focuses on replicating the signature curved silhouette and pull-string mechanism of the original wooden prototype. By utilizing a minimalist brick palette, the set honors the simplicity of early 20th-century toy design while fitting seamlessly into the contemporary LEGO system. Upon its release, the set was well-received by adult fans of LEGO and history enthusiasts alike, primarily serving as a decorative display piece that celebrates the transition from woodworking to plastic injection molding in the brand's evolution.
