Where it came from
Released in 2019 as part of the LEGO Overwatch theme, this set (75973-1) was designed to capture the iconic mechanical aesthetic of two of the game's most recognizable tanks, D.Va and Reinhardt. The set emerged during a period of collaboration between the LEGO Group and Blizzard Entertainment, aimed at translating the vibrant, character-driven designs of the digital shooter into a physical, buildable format for fans and collectors.
The design process focused on balancing the bulky, armor-clad look of the characters with the structural constraints of plastic building bricks. Reinhardt’s suit was crafted to reflect his knightly, heavy-duty appearance, complete with a collapsible shield and massive hammer, while D.Va’s MEKA unit prioritized the sleek, agile silhouette of the game's original concept art. The set received positive attention for its ability to accommodate the corresponding minifigures within the cockpits, a feature that resonated well with those who valued playability alongside display potential.
