Where it came from
The LEGO Ghostbusters Ecto-1 & 2 set, numbered 75828, was released in 2016 to coincide with the theatrical debut of the Ghostbusters reboot film. Produced as part of the broader LEGO partnership with Sony Pictures, the set was designed to capture the updated aesthetic of the iconic vehicle seen in the 2016 production, distinct from the classic 1980s silhouette found in earlier merchandise.
The set features the updated 1980s Cadillac hearse model alongside a corresponding motorcycle, referred to as the Ecto-2, and included five minifigures representing the new cast. The design focused on translating the vehicle's intricate, gadget-heavy exterior into brick form, receiving generally positive attention from fans of the film for its inclusion of specialized gear elements and refined printing on the minifigures.
