Where it came from
The Eep Cheep made its debut in 2020 as part of the initial series of LEGO Super Mario Character Packs, numbered 71361. These blind-bagged collectibles were released to complement the interactive LEGO Super Mario starter courses, allowing fans to expand their digital play experience with iconic enemies from the Nintendo franchise. The figure represents the aquatic antagonist found in various underwater levels of the video game series, scaled down to match the modular design aesthetic of the broader LEGO Super Mario line.
The design of the Eep Cheep figure focuses on translating the character's simple, rounded appearance into a brick-built form that remains recognizable while adhering to the blocky constraints of the system. Like other figures in the series, it features a printed tile for the eyes and a specialized base that allows it to interact with the LEGO Mario figure's color sensor. The series was well-received by fans for its attention to detail and the novelty of adding tactile, digital-compatible characters to the burgeoning theme.
