Where it came from
The Elves Playmat (851341-1) was released by The LEGO Group to support their Elves fantasy theme, which debuted in 2015. This playmat was designed to serve as a physical foundation for the colorful, whimsical sets that depicted the magical world of Elvendale, encouraging younger builders to create narrative-driven scenes involving the elf protagonists and their dragon companions.
The graphic design of the mat features the vibrant, stylized aesthetic synonymous with the Elves line, prioritizing an immersive landscape layout over a traditional grid. While the theme itself was a departure from standard licensed properties, focusing on high-fantasy adventure, the playmat served as a durable, thematic accessory intended to transition the sets from simple desk models into expansive, playable play-sets for the home environment.
