Where it came from
The Emmet Clip, cataloged as set 5005834-1, was released in 2019 to coincide with the theatrical debut of The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part. Designed as a functional accessory rather than a traditional buildable set, the item features a molded plastic minifigure of the protagonist, Emmet Brickowski, permanently attached to a sturdy metal luggage tag or keychain clip. It reflects the broader marketing strategy of the era, which aimed to extend the franchise's reach beyond the cinema by offering portable, durable tokens for younger fans to display on backpacks or school supplies.
The design prioritizes durability and recognizability, mirroring the specific aesthetic of the character as he appears in the film with his signature construction vest and grin. Unlike standard minifigures, which are intended to be taken apart, the Emmet Clip is constructed as a cohesive unit to ensure it withstands the rigors of daily use. While the item was a mass-market promotional piece rather than a collector's model, it remains a notable example of how character-based branding was integrated into the everyday utility products sold within the LEGO ecosystem during the height of the film's popularity.
