Where it came from
The Enchanted Island set, released in 2001, belongs to the LEGO Scala line, a series focused on building and roleplay designed primarily for young girls. Scala was a departure from the traditional system brick, utilizing large, prefabricated plastic parts and poseable dolls that were incompatible with standard minifigure proportions. This specific set features a whimsical island theme, reflecting the era's design trend of incorporating vibrant colors and stylized accessories to create an immersive play experience.
The design of the set was managed by the LEGO Group's internal development team during a period when the company was experimenting with various play patterns to expand its market reach. While the Scala line was intended to offer a high level of aesthetic detail and ease of assembly, it faced mixed reactions from the broader adult collector community, who often preferred the modularity of classic brick sets. Despite its unconventional approach to construction, the line remains a distinct chapter in the history of non-traditional LEGO themes.
