Where it came from
The Evil Dwarf minifigure was released in 2011 as part of the LEGO Minifigures Series 5, which served as the fifth installment in a blind-bagged collectable line intended to expand the variety of characters available for play and display. The figure was designed to evoke a classic fantasy aesthetic, drawing heavily on traditional folklore tropes of the subterranean, bellicose dwarf. It features intricate printing on the torso to represent leather armor and a distinctive, molded hat-and-beard piece that sets it apart from standard minifigure configurations.
The design team at LEGO conceptualized the figure to include specific accessories—a golden axe and a shield emblazoned with a jagged, menacing emblem—to reinforce its 'evil' characterization. Upon its release, the series was well-received by collectors who appreciated the return of thematic fantasy elements that had been less prominent in core sets at the time. The figure remains a recognizable highlight of the Series 5 collection, often noted by enthusiasts for its expressive, scowling face and thematic cohesion within the broader fantasy genre.
