Where it came from
Released in 2014 as part of the LEGO Legends of Chima theme, the Fire vs. Ice set 70156-1 was designed as a Speedorz expansion. These sets were built around a unique play mechanic where minifigures were launched into competitive challenges using a pull-cord ripcord system, reflecting the theme's focus on high-speed combat and elemental conflict within the fictional world of Chima.
The set features the characters Flinx and Frax, representing the fire and ice factions respectively, which were central to the 'Fire vs. Ice' story arc. The design prioritized kinetic play, utilizing specialized molded pieces and decorative stickers to differentiate the two elemental motifs. Like many sets in the Legends of Chima line, it was aimed at younger builders and fans of the animated television series, emphasizing action-oriented play patterns over complex construction.
